Tips to Keep your Dog Safe this Holiday Season
All of us that have dogs try to share the holiday season with them in some way. Some of us get special gifts for our pups, or treats or maybe even their special stocking filled with goodies. My 5 furry kids each have a stocking that I fill with great treats for Christmas, but as you know, I spoil them rotten.
There are some things that you need to know, however, to keep them safe and healthy this holiday season. Here are a few things to consider.
• Make sure your holiday tree is anchored properly. Dogs love to investigate shiny new things and if it tips, it could cause critical injuries.
• No sweets for Fido. It has recently been reported that some chewing gum can cause liver failure and death in dogs. We all know chocolate is a number one no-no for dogs so don’t let it near them at all.
• No table scraps. Dogs don’t do well with the types of foods we like, for example, spicy, greasy and salty foods. These foods can also be deadly. Fatty foods can make dogs get pancreatitis and no chicken bones because they can splinter in your dog’s stomach.
• Watch out with ornaments. Dogs think they are shiny and might be fun to play with but the ornaments could break or they could swallow one of the wire hooks if they are knocked off the tree.
• Holiday plants are dangerous. Make sure your dog can’t get to the Poinsettia because along with mistletoe, cedar, balsam, pine, and holly, they are poisonous to your pet.
If you follow a few guidelines, you and your dogs will have a wonderful holiday season.
